A regular verb is one that changes in a predictable way for the tense that is needed. Verb tense indicates if the action happens always, is happening now, will happen in the future, or happened in the past.

When to use present tense
The present tense is most often used when meeting a new person or when speaking about yourself in general. In English, the present tense expresses something that is generally true.
| I am 25 years old. |
| I work at a barber shop. | |
| I help my mother. | |
| I clean the house on Mondays. | |
| I like cats. | |
When to use present progressive tense
Unlike Arabic and most other languages, we use the present progressive tense to explain things happening right now. So this slightly more complicated structure is used the most in real-time conversations.
| I am going to the supermarket. | |
| I am washing some vegetables. | |
| I am cleaning my room. | |
| I am working until 5pm. | |
| I am eating lunch. |
نقول، “I am happy.”
To help you remember when to use this tense, think about the action. Is it generally true or is it just your current state, like being happy? We say, “I am happy.” We do not mean that we are always happy, but right now we are. It is our current state. So when we are doing something that we won’t do forever, we start with “I am,” then we add the verb +ing.
| I am happy. I am fishing. | |
| I am tired. I am working. | |
| I am peaceful. I am praying. | |
Future tense options
English has two ways to express the future tense to talk about something you will do soon.
| I will make dinner at 5pm. I am going to make dinner at 5pm. |
| I will wash the car on Friday. I am going to wash the car on Friday. |
| I will help my brother with homework. I am going to help my brother with homework. |
Important note: in Arabic, بدي is often used to express something you plan to do in the near future, and this can be used in English as well, but only if you actually desire to do the thing you’re talking about.
